“Appy” Christmas shopping!
It’s that time of year when the nation is out in force, hitting high streets and shopping centres around up and down the country.
Every year we read about bargains to be had, bricks vs clicks, the most popular Christmas gifts. We’ve heard it a million times before. What’s new, we ask?
Well, according to a new report by KPMG, UK shoppers are ahead of the curve when it comes to embracing technology - we’re so super-savvy that we’re buying more goods online than another country in the world.
When KPMG spoke to 9,600 consumers aged between 16 and 65, across 31 countries, they found that social networks play a huge role when influencing purchase. Consumers around the globe look at social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and online review sites, before making their purchase decisions.
The report also talks about how we’re going mad for mobile phone apps and using them to shop as well as keeping in touch with friends, which will have a huge impact on retailers. Eighty-eight per cent of respondents worldwide said they had downloaded an app to their mobile phone - in the UK, six in 10 said they were more likely to use some form of online grocery shopping. We think apps will be great for consumers – especially when it comes to price comparisons – but is it good news for retailers?
It seems that Brits have become a lot more price aware and are always seeking a bargain – we’ve even ditched our traditional British reserve with reports that cash-strapped Britons are taking advice from Which? magazine and are starting to haggle with retailers – whatever next!
All of this has an impact on how retailers communicate with their consumers. Want to keep ahead of retail trends? Get in touch…
